Police still seeking suspect in Bannockburn home invasion

Police continue to search for a man wanted in connection with beating, tying up and robbing a 70-year-old woman in her Bannockburn home last week.

Bannockburn Police Chief Kevin Tracz said the woman was found bound and gagged in an upstairs bedroom of her home on the 1400 block of Aitken Drive by police performing a wellness check March 9.

Tracz said the robber came to the home about 7 p.m. and broke in. He was shocked to discover the 70-year-old victim at home, so he tied her up before ransacking the place.

The robber has been described as a large man, with a light to medium complexion and black hair.

After tying the woman up, Tracz said the robber looked through the home, found a few items, and then left.

He said the woman was able to crawl over to her bedroom phone and, with her hands behind her back, dial her daughter's number.

The daughter called police and asked them to perform the well-being check.

The victim was taken to a hospital, Tracz said, where she remains.

Tracz said the incident is just another daylight burglary that has been taking place in the North Shore, and warns residents to be "more aware of their surroundings."

"We are trying to get the word out to residents to be more aware of their surroundings and be proactive," he said. "Keep your eyes out for your neighbors and if you notice anything out of the ordinary, to call police."

He said the incident remains under investigation.
