Get tax help, health screening at Aurora Univ.
Local residents can get their taxes prepared, computers fixed and blood pressure checked free at Aurora University Saturday, March 20.
The fourth of six public tax preparation sessions by university business students and professors/CPAs will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at Dunham Hall lobby, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora. The Dunham School of Business is offering its eighth annual Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, a partnership with the Internal Revenue Service, for people earning up to $50,000. The sessions continue from 8 to 11 a.m. March 27 and April 10. No reservations are accepted. About 280 Chicago-area taxpayers have taken advantage of the program since it opened Feb. 20. An eight-year record 111 Chicago-area residents had their taxes prepared on the program's opening day.
The tax service is available to low-income, elderly, and disabled residents, including non-English speaking taxpayers. A photo identification card and Social Security identification card are required for taxpayers and dependents. Bilingual college students will provide translation assistance for Spanish-speaking taxpayers.
Free computer cleaning and checkups by Aurora students and faculty will be offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20 in Rooms 121 and 121 in Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place in Aurora.
The Management Information Technology club will sponsor its third annual "PC Check Up Day."
For a second year, a health expo at the tax sessions will offer free blood pressure checks by AU student nurses and memory screenings by social work students. Aurora Township will offer information about its services.
