Cops: Aurora man who reported drive-by actually shot himself
An Aurora man who claimed to be the victim of a drive-by shooting actually shot himself, authorities said Tuesday.
Fabian M. Arness, 18, of the 500 block of Rosewood Avenue, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon without proper ID, possession of a firearm without a serial number, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct - all felonies - in the wake of the March 10 incident.
Aurora Lt. Paul Nelson said Arness originally told police he was sitting in front of his house when a group of men opened fire on him from a car.
Under questioning by police, Arness later admitted to shooting himself.
Nelson would not discuss the man's injuries or how Arness shot himself. Arness also was charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana.
