Cost of ticket will bite Palatine harder

Mayor Schwantz, I have lived with my wife and family in the neighboring Village of Arlington Heights for the last 22 years. Over the years we have shopped in your stores and dined at your restaurants in Palatine on many occasions.

I was recently photographed by your 'Red Light Photo Program' for failing to come to a complete stop before turning right on red. The violation occurred at the corner of Rand and Dundee. In my opinion, to issue a fine of $100 for this offense, especially in these tough economic times, is outrageous.

I am writing you this letter to tell you two things: First, I will never again spend one dime at any establishment inside the Village of Palatine. Secondly, I am copying this letter to the establishments listed below (including the Merlin Auto Shop where I recently spent over $2,000 on repairs to my car) so that they know the neither me nor my family will ever visit them again in the future.

The Village of Palatine will get its pound of flesh (or in this case $100) out of me; however, in the long run, I believe that the Village will lose out. Because at the end of the day, when a Village betrays its trust with the public, it really has nothing left to offer.
