Geneva show introduces women of the Bible while helping Haiti
What was Eve thinking when she bit in to the fruit? And Bathsheba - there's a woman with a soap-opera life.
Actress Anita Gutschick provides insight to both, as well as other women of the Bible, during shows on Friday and Saturday, March 19-20, at the United Methodist Church of Geneva, 211 Hamilton St.
The performances are part of the "Not to Be Forgotten" fundraiser to benefit Grace Children's Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
"We wanted to combine a biblical creative arts program with a much-needed fundraiser for Grace Children's Hospital in Haiti," said Carol Szabo, the church's education director. All of the proceeds will benefit the hospital.
At 7 p.m. Friday Gutschick presents "Water Jars," about Rebekah, Ruth, and the Samaritan woman Jesus meets at the well. Admission is free; an offering will be collected. Refreshments will be served. Szabo said it is appropriate for families.
The program on Saturday runs from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., including lunch, and focuses on women's education, enrichment and fellowship, Szabo said.
Gutschick will perform as six women of the Bible, including Eve and Bathsheba.
Tickets are $15, which includes a boxed lunch, or $10 without lunch. Child care is available. To make a reservation, call (630) 232-7120.
On Sunday, March 21, Gutschick is also performing during the 8, 9 and 10:45 a.m. services as Sarah, wife of Abraham.
