No one should be guaranteed a raise

I have grave concerns about the new contract approved in Naperville Unit District 203. It appears the teachers union is of the opinion that a salary increase is due them. It also appears the teachers in this district are being compensated at a higher rate than state average.

Entitlement seems pervasive through every facet of government from the most local, all the way to our nation's capitol. The attitude of, "Let's spend as much as we want, they'll pay for it" has become a government mantra no matter the level. This, I assure you, will not be tolerated. As am I sure you are aware, property values have plummeted, and in many Naperville neighborhoods decreased by as much as 25 percent.

Unemployment in Illinois is well above 11 percent and the state has a deficit of about $13 billion, depending on whose numbers you choose to believe.

TEA Parties were formed because, we the people, are the owners and guardians of this great country. Our children's future depends on making some very serious decisions today or their future is bleak.

This country and all phases of government must stop the spending and stop it immediately, otherwise grave and troubling times lie ahead. We the people cannot allow that to happen. I strongly suggest the school board devise a way to cut back salaries in the future. No one is guaranteed a raise, especially in these times.

Teachers are important, however they should not only feel a certain obligation to be teaching our children but they should thank God they have jobs as secure as they do. One the major reasons for our state's debt is directly related to teachers' pensions. That is an issue to be addressed in the not-so-distant future.
