Bridal Faire fundraiser strives to give many a 'happily ever after'
There's only one thing better for a bride-to-be than scoring the perfect designer wedding gown for just $50.
And that's knowing the money goes to help local families in crisis.
St. Anne's Project Hope hosts its annual Bridal Faire on Saturday, March 13, at House of Hope Resale in downtown Barrington.
The popular event provides savvy brides and shoppers looking for special occasion attire the opportunity to purchase designer gowns, suits, tuxedos and accessories at a fraction of the retail price, all to benefit local families in crisis.
"Our Bridal Faire features hundreds of beautiful gowns in all sizes and styles," said Eydie Boon, event coordinator. "The dresses, with retail prices into the thousands, are generously donated by area bridal salons and boutiques. We offer them for just $50 each, with all proceeds going directly to Project Hope."
The event, now in its fifth season, has grown not only in its offerings but also in the crowds it attracts. Brides gather from all over - even out of state - to line up early for first pick of the many gowns available.
"It was so worth it," commented one thrilled bride-to-be after last year's faire. "I found the perfect, most gorgeous dress, with a $2,400 price tag, and I paid just $50 for it. I did not have to compromise to save our budget and the money I spent is helping someone else, too."
The one-day event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; shoppers are encouraged to come early for best selection.
"We give brides the opportunity to have a dress of their dreams," said organizer Colleen Dunkel. "Some have bought several gowns, finding it difficult to settle on a style or preferring to have one dress for their ceremony and a different dress for their reception."
In addition to bridal gowns, other formal wear, purses, shoes, jewelry and wedding accessories will also be available. Local vendors specializing in bridal services will be on hand with exclusive offers for attendees, in support of Project Hope. "Though our dresses are a bargain, we strive to pamper the brides and make this an enjoyable, boutique-like experience," Dunkel said.
A special bridal faire room and several changing areas are set up exclusively for the event. Complimentary refreshments and professional fitting consultations are available.
"This is a big fundraiser for Project Hope, which is receiving more calls for assistance than ever before from area families in crisis," said Sister Lorraine Menheer, founding director of Project Hope. "Considering today's economy, we're expecting a big turnout for this year's faire and we'll have plenty of volunteers on hand to help. It'll be a busy day, full of beautiful brides and many happy endings."
