Cook Co. firm accuses Zagat of patent infringement

Zagat Survey LLC, which provides restaurant reviews in more than 100 countries, was sued for patent infringement by a River Forest provider of location-based information.

Earthcomber LLC accused Zagat of infringing patent 7,589,628. The patent, issued in September, is for a method of supplying location-based information to mobile customers.

Zagat's "Zagat To Go '09" application infringes the patent, according to the complaint filed March 10 in federal court in Chicago. The New York-based review company is also accused of inducing others to infringe the patent and aiding others' infringement.

Earthcomber asked the court for money damages and attorney fees and an order barring future infringement.

The Illinois company is represented by Anthony E. Dowell and Geoffrey D. Smith of Dowell Baker PC of Lafayette, Indiana.

The case is Earthcomber LLC v. Zagat Survey LLC, 1:10-cv- 01592, U.S. District Court, Northern District of Illinois.
