Former Round Lake mayor Del Amann dies at 82

Described as a devoted father and friend to all of Round Lake, former mayor Del Amann has died. He was 82.

Mr. Amann died Tuesday at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was a village trustee from 1955 until being elected mayor in 1965, where he served until 1981, son Kevin Amann said.

An electrician by trade, Mr. Amann founded Del's Electric Service with his brother Ed, a 53-year member of the village's planning and zoning board.

Kevin Amann took over the business at one point, but is now working for the village of Round Lake.

"My dad was the type of guy who was always there for someone who needed it," he said. "He really touched a lot of people and was always the first person you called when you needed help."

Ed Amann, 92, said his brother was truly remarkable in his dedication to Round Lake, something his father instilled in both of them at a very young age.

"Our father was one of the founding fathers of Round Lake and he taught us the importance of working for our community," Ed Amann said. "Between me and my brother, we have about 80 years worth of dedicated service to Round Lake."

Visitation for Mr. Amann is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 12, at Strang Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 410 E. Belvidere Road, Grayslake. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 114 N. Lincoln, Round Lake.

Family members said Mr. Amann was known for being a loving and caring husband and son, father, brother, uncle and grandfather.

He is survived by his children Cathie, Kevin, Mark, Cecile, and Renee; two nieces; two nephews; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and his brother, Ed. His wife, Jackie; brothers, Anthony and Frank "Bud;" sisters, Sr. Cecile and Clara; and grandson, Andrew, preceded him in death.

In lieu of flowers, people are asked to make memorial contributions to Mr. Amann's family.
