Speak with wallet to protest cameras

I want to thank the Daily Herald for keeping the public informed about the red-light camera issue in terms of safety data, and how a local community decides on getting the camera systems in the first place. I had no idea how widespread the closed door lobbying and political funding was between the camera companies and the various towns. Upsetting as it is, what really galls me is how it was originally sold to the public as a safety issue to catch people running red lights. It sounded good to me. But then it was used for controversial right turns on red.

This is just another version of the old bait and switch.

If our elected officials really care about safety, then use the cameras for what you originally sold the public on, catching red-light runners. If it's about money, then just say so and let the people decide if they want ridiculously strict enforcement of the right turn on red rule for their community. And lastly, when this fiasco is all said and done, I would appreciate it if the Daily Herald would publish which towns not only have red light cameras in them, but those that use them for imperfect right turns on red.

I want to do my small part and not shop there.
