Rosemont fundraiser to feature best-selling author
The Central Asia Institute hosts the Promoting Literacy . . . Promoting Peace Gala fundraiser on Saturday, April 3, at the Hyatt Regency in Rosemont.
The event, hosted by the Chicago Muslim and Pakistani Community, is a tribute to the institute's executive director, Greg Mortenson, a Nobel Peace prize-nominated philanthropist who has built over 135 schools in Central Asia.
Also attending as a celebrity guest will be "Ugly Betty" star America Ferrera.
Mortenson is co-author of "Three Cups of Tea: One Man's Mission to Promote Peace... One School at a Time," which chronicles Mortenson's effort to promote literacy and education, especially for girls.
The book is a New York Times best-seller.
Dinner starts at 7 p.m. The hotel is at 9300 Bryn Mawr Avenue.
