Lake Co. circuit judge spends three days in the jury pool

A Lake County judge had the opportunity for a few days recently to see what most of us see when we come into the justice system.

Circuit Judge Fred Foreman, a former Lake County state's attorney, U.S. attorney and lawyer in private practice, was among those called for jury duty.

Foreman joined the early Monday morning crowd in the assembly room, was assigned a number and sat for parts of three days until finally being called to a courtroom for screening.

He was among the potential jurors sent to Circuit Judge Margaret Mullen's courtroom where a jury was being selected for a medical malpractice case.

Foreman said he went through the questions used to screen prospective jurors, but was not selected for the panel.

"And I was pretty disappointed I was not chosen," he said. "I have a busy courtroom and a lot of work to do, but I would have really enjoyed the experience of being a juror."
