Olympic gold medalist Evan Lysacek will return to his hometown of Naperville later this month to celebrate his figure skating victory with family and friends.

The nimble-footed skating star will be in town March 26 for several appearances.

"We want to show our appreciation, our support (for) his perseverance," said Veronica Porter, who headed a Naperville Backs the Bid group last year and is organizing the skater's visit.

Lysacek, a 2003 graduate of Neuqua Valley High School, has now competed in two Olympics and will soon put his talents to use in another competition - TV's "Dancing with the Stars."

Porter said Lysacek is a good example for Naperville youth.

"He is not only a tremendous athlete and has incredible character, he also completed his education," she said. "He has had time and compassion for many of his friends and family going through difficult times."

The exact times of Lysacek's appearances on March 26 still are being finalized but he is scheduled to appear at Neuqua Valley for a private event in the morning, followed by a luncheon with the Naperville Area Chamber of Commerce.

The public can welcome Lysacek during a rally at 4 p.m. at the Millennium Carillon on Aurora Avenue.

In case of inclement weather, the rally will be at Wentz Concert Hall on the campus of North Central College. An announcement would be made on the city's Web site at naperville.il.us.

There also will be a reception for Lysacek at 5 p.m. March 26 at Rosebud restaurant, 48 Chicago Ave. The event will require tickets and will benefit the Stephanie Joseph Memorial Fund. Joseph, an ice skater from Naperville, was 21 when she died of cancer in 2008.

Hotel Arista has signed on to sponsor Lysacek's appearances. Porter said the city will not be spending any money on the events. Others interested in being a sponsor can call her at (630) 717-0716.

The night before Lysacek's visit, there will also be a reception at Hotel Arista for all Illinois athletes returning from the Vancouver Olympics. Details on that event also have yet to be finalized.
