State police not amused by E. Aurora students' prank

Two East Aurora High School students face disciplinary measures at school after holding up signs to passing motorists claiming they were kidnapped.

The students were on a bus returning from the Skokie Holocaust Museum about 2 p.m. Monday when they held up signs reading "Please Help Us" and "We were kidnapped," state police Master Sgt. Jim Neylon said.

He would not release the names and ages of the students.

The motorists called police and officers pulled the bus over near I-88 and Farnsworth Avenue, Neylon said.

Police took the students off the bus to talk to them and then allowed them to return.

"We just wanted to make sure the bus was safe and sound and there were no problems," Neylon said. "It turned out to be a well-being check and everything was safe and secure."

School officials said the students would be disciplined.

Neylon said police do not plan to file charges.
