St. Charles looking for parade volunteers

The parade committee is seeking volunteers age 16 and older to help with the 2010 McNally's St. Patrick's Parade starting at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 13. This includes: organizing and directing parade participants during lineup and through parade; escorting and pacing parade units; carrying banners for parade entrants; distributing brochures along parade route; and other general duties.

Volunteers will be needed for approximately two hours, from 2 to 4 p.m. The parade steps off at 3 p.m. After the parade, all volunteers are invited to the volunteer pizza party.

The parade is produced by the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce. To volunteer, call Deb Treutler at the chamber office, (630) 584-8384 or e-mail dtreutler@stcharleschamber.com and indicate "parade volunteer" in the subject line. Or, visit stcharleschamber.com for a volunteer form.

The St. Patrick's parade in St. Charles was first held in 2000 and initiated by McNally's, which is now the parade's major sponsor. The first parade was produced by the Downtown St. Charles Partnership and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the city of St. Charles and St. Charles Jaycees.

Erin Breslin from McNally's says, "It's amazing how many people come out for the parade every year, and we're delighted to say, 'Fáilte ar ais!' to the parade, which means 'Welcome back!' We are excited to be back and involved in an event that we think is a great day for the community."

McNally's current location at 201 E. Main St. is situated on the parade route, and will be again next year after the pub moves a few blocks west to 109 W. Main St., in May.

Immediately following the parade, Onesti's Italian Steak House and Supper Club, 18 N. Fourth St., will host a "Meet-and-Greet" open to the public with parade grand marshals Terry Donahue from the All-American Girls Professional Baseball league; Billy Pierce from the Chicago White Sox; and Randy Hundley from the Chicago Cubs. All are invited to stop by, meet these local baseball legends, get their autographs and talk baseball. The meet-and-greet takes place from 4 to 5 p.m.
