For the frill of it: Ruffles rule the red carpet on Oscar night

Ruffles - tiered, flowing and, at times, a tad overwheming - were the hot trend at Sunday night's Academy Awards, proving there's a thin line between frilly and silly.

Still, fashion disasters were few. Overall, Hollywood went glam with sparkling gowns, classy up-dos and small, dangly earrings.

Best dressedAnna Kendrick - The "Up in the Air" star's off-the-shoulder blush-colored Eli Saab gown draped perfectly. She may have lost the Oscar, but she was a clear red carpet winner.Sandra Bullock - A fitted gold Marchesa gown made "The Blind Side" star look like an Oscar winner, and an Oscar statuette.Demi Moore - The 47-year-old actress looked as good as she ever has in a strapless Versace with a ruffled bottom.Vera Farmiga - Bold glamour?
