Kane forest preserve should preserve land
John Hoscheit, Kane County Board member and forest preserve commission president, just doesn't get the point of why people are writing letters in opposition to the "discussion" taking place about gravel mining at the Brunner Forest Preserve. He doesn't understand that residents want this land protected for present and future generations.
Gravel mining would destroy the scenery and result in loss of wildlife habitat, air and noise pollution, and destroy the serenity of the Fox River. Board member John Fahy also thinks people will allow this destruction of public land by calling it an opportunity for constituents and underprivileged kids. They might get a lake in a decade or two, or three, or more.
The truth is that a gravel mining company would make a profit without buying the land it destroys. The potential for corruption with a deal like this is enormous. No forest preserve can be safe with "discussions" like this taking place.
Proponents of gravel mining forest preserve land - Fahy and board member Philip Lewis - are up for election in November. They need to learn why public servants shouldn't be discussing gravel mining our forest preserves. This needs to be an election issue and these two should be voted out of office.
That might give John Hoscheit an idea of what he should really be discussing: The protection of our public lands.
