Wisconsin woman bitten by raccoon

LIVINGSTON, Wis. -- The Grant County Health Department in Wisconsin says a Livingston woman has been treated for a raccoon bite, and area law enforcement agencies are issuing a reminder about animal bites.

Authorities say 60-year-old Paula Kopp was opening her garage door over the weekend when a raccoon came around the corner of the building and bit her in the leg.

Kopp was treated at Southwest Health Center in Platteville and an animal bite referral was made to the health department.

Grant County Sheriff Keith Govier says all animal bites should be treated by a physician and reported to local law enforcement. He says that if the animal is not located, the physician will recommend rabies treatment to begin immediately.
