Sky's Dupree named to Women's National Team
Chicago Sky all-star forward Candice Dupree was added to the 2010-12 USA Basketball Women's National Team roster today by USA Basketball.
The other 11 athletes named to USA Basketball include Alana Beard (Washington Mystics), Swin Cash (Seattle Storm), Tina Charles (University of Connecticut), Shameka Christon (New York Liberty), Lindsey Harding (Washington Mystics), Asjha Jones (Connecticut Sun), Angel McCoughtry (Atlanta Dream), Renee Montgomery (Connecticut Sun), Maya Moore (University of Connecticut), Lindsay Whalen (Minnesota Lynx) and Candice Wiggins (Minnesota Lynx).
In October, Dupree played for USA in the UMMC Ekaterinburg International Invitational and averaged 7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 16.7 minutes per game.
"It may sound clichȩ, but it is truly a great honor to be selected as a member of the national team," said Dupree. "I am very excited and appreciative to be mentioned in the same breath as the great players that have come through the USA basketball."
"I'm excited because it's a great mixture of veterans, young players, players who are versatile enough to give us an awful lot of options as to how we want to play," said Geno Auriemma, USA National Team and University of Connecticut head coach. "Certainly we take into consideration winning and all of these players are winners."
The athletes announced today join the eight previously announced USA National Team members Sylvia Fowles (Chicago Sky), Sue Bird (Seattle Storm), Tamika Catchings (Indiana Fever), Diana Taurasi (Phoenix Mercury), Seimone Augustus (Minnesota Lynx), Kara Lawson (Connecticut Sun), Candace Parker (Los Angeles Sparks) and Cappie Pondexter (Phoenix Mercury).
