Elgin man held on charges of sexually assaulting 13-year-old girl

An Elgin man accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl is being held behind bars on $1 million bond, officials said.
Jose R. Garcia-Nunez, 39, of the 0 to 100 block of Weston Avenue. Weston Ave., has been charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse after being accused of abusing the girl for 6½ years.
Officials said the abuse started in July of 2003 and lasted through last December.
If found guilty of the charges, Garcia-Nunez could spend up to 30 years in jail.
His next court appearance is set for March 11.
