Carol Stream police sergeant under investigation

A Carol Stream police sergeant is being investigated for his possible role in a criminal trespassing incident early last month, authorities confirmed Monday.

Chief Kevin Orr said the person who originally called police concerning the incident did not file charges or sign a complaint.

Nevertheless, the internal probe is continuing, Orr said.

"We had an officer accused of wrongdoing," Orr said. "So we still have an investigation to see if any (department) rules and regulations have been broken."

Orr would not name the officer in question but did confirm he is a sergeant in the department.

Police responded at 10:37 p.m. Feb. 10 to a call of criminal trespass to a residence. While en route, the responding officers were told the sergeant in question was involved.

When the officers arrived, the sergeant was not there and the complainant decided not to press charges.

Orr said the investigation likely will be completed within the next few weeks. He said investigators have interviewed both the sergeant and the complainant. The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Orr said if any wrongdoing is found, either he or the police and fire board would handle discipline, depending upon the severity of the offense.
