Arlington Hts. trash pickup behind times
A Neighbor Fencepost letter from an Arlington Heights resident states the village should stay with its current system of twice-weekly pickup and plastic bags left at the curb along with the plastic recycling bins. He feels that the "rolling bins" will take up too much space in his garage (the current green ones do too) and will be "attacked by wildlife looking for an easy meal."
What Mr. Roth is not taking into consideration is that the animals - birds, squirrels, raccoons - have a field day with the present system. Plus, the bags are clogging our landfills and are ruining the environment.
The village is always touting its' desire to "go green" - the Priuses (wonder when they'll be recalled); the Village Hall (built over cost and with a leaky roof as a result) - but still allows these awful curbside garbage disasters.
I hate walking the dog on trash days as most of the garbage is already scattered willy-nilly by early morning.
Other towns issue heavy-duty paper trash bags which are animal-roof for those who choose not to have the rolling bins. And the paper bags don't destroy the environment. Our Earth is a gift. We must not destroy it but help it.
And you know what? Our town looks downright tacky two days a week. And Mr. Roth, a bungee cord over the cart will solve your problem.
