Investigators looking for cause of North Aurora barn fire
Fire investigators continue to look for clues as to why an abandoned barn on Deerpath Road caught fire early Monday morning.
North Aurora Fire Chief Steve Miller said officials were called at 5:10 a.m. with reports that an old barn at 4S335 Deerpath Road was engulfed in flames.
He said by the time crews arrived on the scene, the roof of the barn had caved in.
"It got quite a head start on us was extremely hot when we got there," he said. "So, we pulled everyone back and just controlled the fire to make sure it didn't spread."
He said tanker trucks from Aurora and Batavia were called to assist at the fire, adding no one was injured while fighting the blaze and that the barn had long been abandoned.
Investigators still are trying to determine the cause of the fire, Miller said, adding there was no electricity to the structure.
"We have not ruled out arson at this point," he said. "But, we aren't completely sure what it was."
Traffic was closed on Deerpath Road for about an hour after the firefighters arrived on the scene he said.
