'9 to 5' and 'Rock of Ages' to make Chicago debuts
Broadway in Chicago announced its 2010-11 season today, and it is filled with Chicago premieres.
Things kick off Friday, May 21, with the off-Broadway spectacular "Fuerza Bruta: Look Up" which features aerialists, dancers and more in a multilevel swimming pool at Chicago's Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University. "Fuerza Bruta" is expected to play through most of summer.
"Rock of Ages," the 2009 jukebox musical of 1980s heavy metal hits, launches its national tour in Chicago from Sept. 21 through Oct. 3.
The European hit "Traces," by the French Canadian company 7 Fingers, arrives Oct. 26 with its cadre of tumblers and acrobats.
Yasmina Reza's 2009 Tony Award-winning comedy "God of Carnage" is up next from Nov. 30 through Dec. 12. It will be interesting which celebrities sign on to star in this confrontation between parents whose kids get in a fight.
Dolly Parton's musical stage adaptation of the 1980 film "9 to 5" makes its case to Chicago after a shorter-than-expected Broadway run in 2009. "9 to 5: The Musical" is set to play from Jan. 18 to Jan. 31, 2011.
The Australian ballroom dance spectacular "Burn the Floor" goes back on tour after an extended Broadway run. See it Feb. 1 to 13, 2011.
Other touring shows not included in the season include return engagements of "Stomp" (April 27-May 2), "Avenue Q" (May 4-9), "The Lion King" (Sept. 29-Nov. 7) and "Wicked" (Dec. 1-Jan. 23).
