Madigan uses power as a dictator would

The Feb. 24 guest essay "Politics isn't as corrupt as reformers suggest" by Michael Madigan's spokesman was laughable. Why would the Daily Herald bother to run such a blatantly biased and self-serving opinion from the head of the Office of Official Corruption in Illinois?

It's time that we all accept the facts - in Illinois, we live in a dictatorship, run by Michael Madigan. In his position as speaker of the House, Madigan decides which bills are bottled up in committee and which ones will see the light of day to be voted upon. This gives him absolute power over all bills passed, or not passed, in the state.

In addition, he alone determines which candidates will receive sizable contributions from the party for their campaigns. What more power do you need to be able to control everything that happens in Illinois? I suggest that in the future, the Daily Herald refer to Michael Madigan with the proper title, not "speaker of the House" but "dictator for life."
