Lake Zurich Dist. 95 raising five fees, but not registration
Lake Zurich parents will not have to pay more in registration fees for the 2010-11 school year, but they will see an increase in other student fees.
The District 95 board voted Thursday night to approve an increase in five student fees, but a registration fee increase was not on the recommendation to the board.
"We just recognized that the economy is still very difficult in the community, and raising the registration fees was something that we were going to try very hard not to do," board President Kathy Brown said.
• Replacement IDs will cost $10, up from $5.
• Elementary lunches will cost $2.30, up from $2.20.
• Transportation fee will increase to $450 from $350 per student.
• Kindergarten- through eighth-grade summer school sessions will increase to $150 from $145.
• The classroom portion of driver education will increase to $100 from $50 this summer only. The behind-the-wheel training cost, $300, will not rise.
Costs for participating in sports, band and other programs will remain the same, as will the yearbook cost.
The registration fee increase would have generated about $111,000 in additional revenue for District 95, but Assistant Superintendent Jeff King said that for the scope of the district's budget, that revenue would not have made a drastic impact.
Brown said the board and administration have focused on looking into making the budget more efficient, especially in this economic climate.
"Everybody is nervous there are so many unknowns with every aspect of our funding from state level to property taxes," Brown said. "That's why we continue to be cautious with our budget."
