Burglary suspect linked to officer's death charged

Murder charges won't be filed against a suspect in a burglary linked to the death of a Chicago police sergeant.

Larry Brown of South suburban Markham is charged with felony burglary and obstructing identification. Cook County prosecutors allege the 28-year-old Brown acted as a lookout while others broke into the store and stole thousands of dollars worth of cell phones.

Judge Ramon Ocasio III on Thursday ordered Brown held without bond because he was on probation for another burglary when arrested.

Police Sgt. Alan Haymaker was responding to a burglary when his squad car crashed, killing him early Monday. Police Superintendent Jody Weiss expressed the possibility murder charges would be filed against perpetrators of the burglary.

A state's attorney spokesman says there weren't sufficient legal basis to charge Brown with murder.
