Hoffman Estates home damaged by fire

A fire caused $50,000 in damage to a Hoffman Estates home Saturday afternoon, officials said.

Firefighters responded to a 2:30 p.m. call about a structure fire on the 2000 block of Parkview Circle West.

Arriving on the scene, they found smoke coming from the chimney of a one-and-a-half story home. The fire was located inside an exterior wall.

No residents were home at the time.

Along with Hoffman Estates, Elk Grove, Barrington, Elgin, and Hanover Park Fire departments assisted on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. According to a news release, the home was found to have smoke detectors, but it is unclear if they were working. Residents were allowed back in the home Saturday evening.
