18-year-old Des Plaines man charged in attempted murder
An 18-year-old Des Plaines man has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery after stabbing a teenage acquaintance in the neck during a dispute over a woman, police said.
Tomas Berrum, of 2041 Pine Street, is now in police custody. He faces a Friday morning court date at Cook County Circuit Court in Skokie. His bond will be set Monday morning.
According to police, Berrum lured another man, 18-year-old Pierre Savaria, also of Des Plaines, to a house on the 1900 block of Maple Street with the intention of killing him.
Berrum then stabbed Savaria in the neck. According to a police news release, witnesses said Berrum believed his girlfriend was cheating on him with Savaria.
Savaria was transported to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he underwent surgery. Police say he is in stable condition.
