Downtown Elgin bank robbed

Elgin police have a suspect in custody over a bank robbery in the city's downtown Friday afternoon, but police said the individual has not been charged.

Police were called to the Chase Bank at 24 E. Chicago St. just after 2 p.m. Details on the robbery were not immediately available Friday.

Lt. Tom O'Herron said police and Federal Bureau of Investigation detectives continue to investigate the incident in which in undetermined amount of cash was taken.

It is not known if the subject displayed a weapon or presented a note during the incident, O'Herron said.
