Food story contains real message of love
Finally, someone gets it. Often newspaper and magazine food editors focus on Valentine's Day with food that delivers a somewhat twisted message. You love someone so you make homemade candy or a juicy barbecued steak? You load up their arteries and bloat their bellies with saturated fat, cholesterol and refined sugar to say you love them? Don't forget that February is American Heart Month besides the month that caters to affairs of the heart.
I welcomed the Daily Herald article that focused on delicious foods crafted with good-for-you walnuts. Bowls of oatmeal and yes, oatmeal cookies too, taste even better with a dash of cinnamon and a sprinkling of raisins and walnuts (see Oatmeal good for your heart Feb. 10). If we remember that food can be both delicious and healthful, those we love most will be here to celebrate Valentine's Day for many more years.
