Buoyed by everyday kindness of others
In my 70 plus years, I went here, there, everywhere automatically. No thought ... in and out of stores, regular doors, revolving doors. I did things - lifted, carried, worked easily, represented artist's works to architects, interior designers, large buildings, hospitals, public areas, lifting art cases weighing 100 to 150 pounds - no problems coast to coast.
Then my back went "west" requiring an emergency operation of hours and a unit of blood. All went well, but I ended up with "drop foot," my sense of balance gone and no use of my left foot, which is normal. In physical therapy but now with a cane, I approach a door and people open, hold or instruct their children to "hold the door." Then inside they ask, "can I help"? "May I assist?"
People I don't know are doing for me and as though it was nothing, just part of their day. Helping others - at 74 years young, I'm aware of all the good in the world with the people. Took a while. Thanks to all!
