Elgin man busted for coke
An Elgin man was arrested over the weekend for drug possession and admitted to intent to distribute cocaine, according to a federal complaint filed Tuesday in U.S. District Court.
According to the complaint, FBI agents served a search warrant Friday at the home of Juan Rochel, 28, in the 600 block of Hastings Avenue in Elgin. Agents reportedly turned up 616 grams of a white powdery substance that field tested positive for cocaine. Agents also discovered a .38 caliber revolver, ammunition and $29,500 in cash all hidden in a drop ceiling in a basement utility room. According to FBI agents, Rochel was read his rights and admitted to planning to sell the cocaine and that the money was proceeds from previous sales, as he'd been dealing for the last two years.
Rochel faces a federal detention hearing set for Friday.
