Carpentersville grocery store dispute ends with robbery charge
A 45-year-old Carpentersville woman accused of stealing money from the hand of a grocery store clerk was charged with robbery Tuesday, police said.
Patricia M. Wolf, of the 100 block of Spring Court North, was in the checkout line at La Rosita, 655 Route 68, at 6:40 p.m. Feb. 5 when she grabbed $60 from the cashier's hand, said Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart.
"She ran outside, but the manager and clerk were able to grab onto her," he said. "She was fighting with them, pushing and struggling, and eventually got away with the money."
Bosshart, citing preliminary police reports, said it was unclear how investigators connected Wolf to the robbery. He said it would have been a routine theft case had she not used physical force outside of the store.
According to court records, Wolf, who was denied bond, has an unrelated forgery case pending in Kane County, and has served probation and prison time for prior drug possession and forgery convictions.
Her next court date is Feb. 25 in front of Judge James C. Hallock.
