Lake County seniors stars to meet in hoops Shootout

Lake County will host its first Lake County Senior Shootout, a high school all-star basketball game on Saturday, March 27.

The game will consist of the top high school senior boys and girls in Lake County and will take place on the campus of the College of Lake County in Grayslake.

"It's an event that was deserved and needed for the players in Lake County as well as the community," said assistant coordinator Fred Fleming. "Other areas have a similar game, so why can't we have our own?"

The event will involve the American Heart Association as well as the local cease-fire programs.

"We want to raise awareness of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, which is the No. 1 cause of death to young athletes, by informing the parents, students and school officials of how serious this disease is and how important it is for student-athletes to get tested," Fleming said.

The game will be played under the rules and guidelines of the Illinois High School Association.

The players and their coaches selected to play will be notified by the end of the month.

Officials of the all-star game are inviting everyone to come out and support their favorite teams and players. For more information please call 773-359-1631.

It is to refresh everyone on the rule changes.

This is the group's 14th clinic. Money raised this year will once again help out some Chicagoland High Schools with some newer game and practice equipment. Last year, more than $2,500 was raised for five Chicago Public High Schools. They were able to purchase equipment such as game balls, practice balls, ball bags, ball carts, nets, referee stands, etc.

The clinic will be held at Glenbard East High School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is a $20 pre-registration and $30 at the door.
