Jersey Kids perform at Huntley HighThe Jersey Kids will be performing at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18 in the Huntley High School Library Resource Center, 13719 Harmony Road. The full concert will have songs based off the musical "Jersey Boys," including "Sherry", "Who Loves You" and "My Boyfriend's Back." Inspired by the Chicago company of Jersey Boys, the Lake in the Hills youths have performed at many locations throughout the suburbs, including Stage Left Cafe in Woodstock, Marlowe Middle School in Lake in the Hills, and Del Webb Sun City in Huntley. Torres will host two more forums to receive feedback from the community and employees on possible budget reductions for next school year. It will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave. in Elgin; and Thursday, Feb. 18 in Room A130 at Bartlett High School, 701 Schick Road. Attendees will hear a brief overview of the current revenue shortfalls that are occurring across the state, and then hear the list of reductions that were considered by the district's Budget Advisory Task Force.Recital series begins WednesdayThe Dundee and Elgin Area Lenten Recital Series will start out on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17, at First United Methodist Church, 318 W. Main St., West Dundee. The organist will be Phyllis Lange-Connelly with pianist Nancy Marbury. It will continue from 12:10 to 12:40 p.m. Thursdays at various local churches. On Thursday, Feb. 18, organist Jose Rosado plays at St. James Episcopal Church, Sixth and Washington streets, West Dundee. For details, call (847) 426-5612.Elgin Knights host 'Chili for Charity'On Saturday, Feb. 20, the Monsignor Henry Schryer Council 654 Knights of Columbus will host their 12th annual Chili For Charity Cookoff and Dinner from 3:30 to 7 p.m. This fundraiser will be held at St. Thomas More School gym, 1625 W. Highland Ave., Elgin. There will be 50 different chilis to choose from as contestants compete for the number one chili and prizes. Proceeds will benefit Elgin Catholic schools, Elgin Soup Kettle and Elgin Youth Sports. There is no registration fee. Barry Valentine, director of the McHenry County Emergency Agency, will discuss the procedures that are implemented at the McHenry County Government Center. Jim Allsopp from the National Weather Service will discuss the nature of severe weather systems, the do's and don'ts during severe weather, how to report severe weather, and the role of the National Weather Service.
