Second suspect charged in fatal Elgin shooting

Authorities have charged a second murder suspect in connection with the Feb. 4 shooting death of a 29-year-old man on Elgin's west side, police said Monday.

Rogelio Leon-Rodriguez, 18, of the 500 block of Standish Street, Elgin, was charged Saturday with two counts of murder in the death of Hugo A. Navarro, police said.

Leon-Rodriguez - the third suspect charged in connection with Navarro's death and the second charged with murder - is accused of driving the shooter to the scene, Deputy Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said. He was being held in the Kane County jail on $2 million bond as of Monday afternoon.

Swoboda said police are still looking for their primary murder suspect, Amilkar Antonio "Tony" Caro, 32, of the 1300 block of Dakota Street, who has been charged as the shooter. Also charged is Caro's live-in girlfriend, Alexis I. Cruz, 18, who is accused of obstructing the investigation.

Navarro was gunned down about 2 a.m. Feb. 4 in front of a house in the 700 block of West Adams Street. Police said the homicide followed a domestic incident involving the victim, Caro and Cruz, all of whom were "involved" in a relationship.

Anyone with information about the case or Caro's whereabouts is asked to call (847) 289-2700, or (847) 695-4195 to remain anonymous.
