Starlights shine in French Cup competition

The Starlights Seniors, a synchronized skating team that practices in Buffalo Grove, made quite a splash in France last weekend, winning ninth place overall in their first international competition.

The Starlights competed for the French Cup in the Guy Boissiere Sports Center, in Rouen, France, on Feb. 5 and 6. In addition, they took eighth place for their short program and eighth place for their free skate.

Rouen, which considers itself the French capital of synchronized ice skating, brought hundreds of skaters from all over the world for the annual cup competition.

The Starlights, who practice at Twin Rinks Ice Pavilion, 1500 Abbott Court, Buffalo Grove, are made up of young women from northern Cook and Lake counties.

Their short program music was "Mack the Knife" and their long program music was from the French movie, "Amelie."
