Chicago man killed in Palatine crash

An 89-year-old Chicago man died early Monday following a car accident on Northwest Highway in Palatine.
Nicola Masellis, of the 4800 block of West Waveland Avenue in Chicago, was pronounced dead at 2:30 a.m. at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, an official from the Cook County medical examiner's office said.
Masellis was a passenger in a vehicle involved in the crash, officials said.
Details of the accident and the conditions of other people involved are unknown because Palatine police officials said they could not release any information.
Police cited the President's Day holiday, and said the officials who normally release accident information were not working on Monday. Police said an update may be released on Tuesday.
