Who would leave one stranded?

I'm confused by the negativity that surrounds health care as I've never met an American who would leave someone stranded. In light of this, I'm assuming people just don't know that many of us are stranded.

As a former Peace Corps volunteer, then U.N. worker and now civilian working for the U.S. government in Iraq, I'm doing my best to help our country in policy efforts around the world. The second I leave my job, however, I'm not covered and I'm chock-full of pre-existing conditions. The same is true of my family.

So, let me say to anyone that will listen - I'm soon to be stranded. Even five years ago, I could purchase coverage that was effective for a reasonable price. I fortunately never used the coverage, but it was there. Now the same coverage is estimated at $2,500 per month.

I'm not surprised that total health care spending is $2.5 trillion. Our Congressional leaders and civil servants have lifetime access to care at a fraction of this cost. If my access to coverage would in some way injure any of your readers, then I withdraw my support for reform; please just help get all of us the same coverage that Congress has, and I'll be quiet.

Otherwise, please - please - support the simple reforms that will save our country millions and put our care of people where our defense capabilities are: At the top.
