Ky. Fair Board says park may open in summer
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- At least four companies have expressed an interest in taking over Kentucky Kingdom, the Louisville amusement park that Six Flags has said it will no longer operate.
Kentucky Fair Board President Harold Workman says he is optimistic a new operator will be in place by this summer. The Fair Board owns most of the property that the amusement park occupies.
Workman told The Courier-Journal that Fair Board officials assume there is no chance an agreement can be reached with Six Flags for a new lease deal on land the park has used since 1998 at the Kentucky Exposition Center.
Workman says the board may issue a request for theme-park companies to submit proposals for reopening Kentucky Kingdom once a bankruptcy judge in Delaware frees Six Flags of its Kentucky Kingdom lease obligations.
