West Corp. closes Chicago office

OMAHA, Neb. -- West Corp. says it probably will have to eliminate the jobs of about 120 Omaha workers by March 31.

Spokesman David Pleiss says West lost a program from a client that decided to move its operations to another country. He would not name the company.

He says the employees work at one of West's Omaha call centers.

Pleiss also said Friday that about 30 new Omaha positions are being created because of work moved with the closure of a Chicago office. He says the 120 Omaha workers who are losing their jobs will have a shot at the new positions, based on the skills required.

West Corp. services include conferencing, call centers and emergency management.

Pleiss says West employs 3,000 people in Nebraska and 41,000 worldwide.
