The turnout for the recent primary was abysmal.

Why? Because people in Illinois are disgusted with our state government and feel very helpless about ever changing how things are done in Springfield.

One thing we could do, one thing we actually have the power to change - join the citizen movement to bring fair election maps to Illinois.

Under the existing system, legislators draw district lines behind closed doors and these districts are drawn to protect the incumbents - 98 percent of incumbents win in Illinois - and we know how well that has worked for us.

The solution is to have a new, nonpartisan fair mapping process and the only way to bring that about is by petition of 300,000 registered voters by the end of April which would put the amendment on the November 2010 ballot for voters to decide. If it passes it would go into effect for the next general election.
