Her white knight takes her to ... White Castle?
Reservations were required. We got our own white tablecloth, a vase of flowers, a keepsake Valentine's Day menu and a waitress - at White Castle.
The longtime slider king offers a marketing ploy that, two years ago, my husband couldn't resist. I, on the other hand, was a little less enthusiastic.
Have our romantic Valentine's dinner at White Castle? Are you crazy?
We were newlyweds, though, and love knows no bounds.
So, we found ourselves at the White Castle in Hoffman Estates, snuggled in a reserved booth, holding hands and smiling when the waitress brought those infamous sliders. It was such a hoot that other nearby giggling couples took photos of each other, like proof for a dare. My husband and I later got up and slow danced to the piped-in music. The night was ours ... at least until the next shift of guests arrived. The restaurant also sells "craver gear" apparel - like White Castle T-shirts and plush pink blankets - so you could slip into something more comfortable later.
We enjoyed our Valentine's Day dinner so much that we did it again last year at another White Castle with a married couple that we had fixed up.
After all, we wanted to pass on the tradition.
White Castle is hosting Valentine's dinner again this year 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14. So if your knight in shining armor wants to take you to a nearby castle, make a reservation at whitecastle.com/promotions/valentine.
