Elk Grove High speech team takes 6th

Elk Grove High School's Speech Team competed at the Glenbard West High School Invitational Saturday, Jan. 9, where seniors Kaitlin Olivero and Marisa Marques placed sixth in Humorous Duet Acting.

On Friday, Jan. 16, Elk Grove participated in the Wheaton Warrenville South High School Invitational where senior Katie Kmetty placed sixth in Original Oratory and Olivero placed first in Special Occasion Speaking.

Competing on Jan. 22-23 at the Downers Grove South High School Invitational, Olivero, Marques, and freshman Katie Hoth advanced to the semi-final rounds of competition in fields of more than 80 contestants.

Most recently, the Elk Grove Speech team placed fifth out of 12 schools at the MSL Conference tournament on Jan. 30.

The following students advanced to the final round of competition: senior Mary Kate Pleggenkuhle, sixth place in Oratorical Declamation; Hoth, fifth place in Poetry; senior Patrick Loftus, fourth place in Humorous Interpretation; junior Shannon Hancock, third place in Original Comedy; senior Meg Ryan, third place in Prose Reading; sophomore Brandon James and junior Roderick Phillips, third place in Dramatic Duet Acting; Olivero, second place in Special Occasion Speaking; and Marques and Olivero, Conference Champions in Humorous Duet Acting.
