Arlington Heights man charged with aggravated DUI

A Cook County judge set bond at $80,000 for an Arlington Height man arrested on charges of aggravated driving under the influence early Friday in Wheeling. The arrest marks his fourth DUI arrest.

Officers stopped Daniel Hong, of the 1400 block of Lillian Avenue, shortly after 2 a.m. Friday when they noticed the car he was driving was swerving, said Assistant State's Attorney Jim Pontrelli.

Hong, 27, also ran a red light and failed field sobriety tests, Pontrelli said.

The defendant's background includes DUI convictions in far-flung locales. He received one year's probation for a 1999 conviction in Hawaii, Pontrelli said. He was also convicted DUI in Alaska in 1995 and received a one year conditional discharge for a 2008 conviction in Illinois, Pontrelli said.

If convicted, Hong could face three to seven years in prison. He next appears in court March 3.
