Durbin wants Cohen to step aside

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says the man who won the lieutenant governor's race in Illinois' Democratic primary needs to step aside.

Durbin on Friday said Scott Lee Cohen needs to talk to people he trusts and conclude that the best thing for him to do is to get off the ballot.

Cohen is a pawnbroker who once was arrested and accused of holding a knife to his former girlfriend's throat.

Democratic party leaders were stunned by Cohen's surprise win Tuesday. They're panicked that he'll drag down the ticket he shares with Gov. Pat Quinn.

Durbin says he doesn't expect President Barack Obama's White House will have to intervene to fix the latest embarrassing political problem in Obama's home state.
