'Fight Science' gives Wayne State expert TV role
DETROIT -- A bioengineer at Wayne State University has "gone Hollywood" as chief scientist on the current National Geographic TV series "Fight Science."
On the show, professor Cynthia Bir explains the physics and biology of martial arts, weapons and police safety gear.
Bir is an injury prevention expert and plays a similar role on ESPN's "Sport Science." Her TV work began about five years ago.
The jobs put the 41-year-old mother of four on camera with some of the world's top martial artists and athletes as they demonstrate their abilities.
It's an approach designed to mix information with a big dose of entertainment.
This season's five-show "Fight Science" series continues Thursday with "Stealth Fighters."
