Feds allege Naperville businessman tied to Chicago corruption
The U.S. attorney's office has formally alleged a link between a 50-year-old Naperville businessman and the high-profile corruption case of former Chicago Alderman Ike Carothers.
Wafeek "Wally" Aiyash was named in a criminal-information filing in U.S. District Court accusing him of bribery. Aiyash was reportedly named in the plea agreement entered in Carothers' corruption case this week.
Aiyash was charged in November with offering $100,000 in bribes to a then-unnamed Chicago official in an attempt to set up restaurant franchises at O'Hare and Midway International Airports.
Bribery carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
