Winter wins easily in 5th Subcircuit judges race

Circuit Judge Diane Winter easily held off a challenge from Chicago attorney Peter Curielli in the Republican primary in Lake County's 5th Judicial Subcircuit.

With all 97 precincts counted, unofficial totals showed Winter had 5,478 votes and 62 percent of those cast to earn the nomination over Curielli's 3,289 votes.

Winter has been a judge since 2000 and will go on to face attorney Timothy Howe, who ran unopposed in the Democratic primary.

She said she wants to expand assistance for people representing themselves and educate residents about the legal system.
